Directions. Place the mint leaves in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass and top with the sugar. Muddle these together until the leaves begin to break down. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat to medium low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved โ€” 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to your blender carafe. (If your carafe is heat-resistant you can skip the rest period.) Allow the syrup to cool to around 80 degrees F. Clean the saucepan.

Steps to Make It. Gather the ingredients. Place 4 to 5 fresh mint sprig leaves and 2 sugar cubes, or 1/2 ounce simple syrup into a julep cup, collins glass, or double old-fashioned glass. Muddle well to dissolve the sugar and release the oil and aroma of the mint. Add 2 1/2 ounces bourbon whisky.
