The river and the views at Mistaya Canyon are spectacular. We were there in the summer of '03, the year of so many forest fires, so the mountains weren't very visible then. There's a mountain close by in the upper left photo that's barely visible.This is the first leg of the Howse Pass Trail.In winter please check the local avalanche bulletins.

The trailhead for Mistaya Canyon is just 5km south of Saskatchewan River Crossing, at the side of the Icefields Parkway. There is a large sign to show you where to park. From there, there is an obvious pathway heading down the hill, away from the highway. It's about 500m before you reach this sign and the canyon itself.

The Mistaya Canyon stop consists of a short 1.9km loop hike with around 90m elevation gain from the parking lot on the main road. On average, the hike usually takes around 40 minutes to complete, unless you are like us and spend ages taking photos. ๐.
