Description Undines were Mediterranean sea spirits who lived as soulless mortals, according to the nineteenth century novel by Baron Heinrich Karl de la Motte Fouqué entitled Undine. Medieval lore tells of a story in which a water spirit takes on human form and soul by marrying a mortal knight she has come to love.
