Hun vriend Dimitri De Fauw was tijdens Zesdaagse van Vlaanderen-Gent eind 2006 betrokken bij een ongeval op de piste met de Spanjaard Isaac Gálvez. Die overleed later aan zijn verwondingen. De Fauw was zo aangeslagen door het ongeval dat hij in een diepe mentale crisis belandde. In 2009 stapte hij uit het leven.
