Ninho da Manta Viewpoint. The Ninho da Manta viewpoint is located a few metres from the start of Vereda do Areeiro (PR1), one of the most iconic hiking trails in Madeira. It's a must-stop both for hikers, setting off from here towards Madeira's highest peak, and for visitors to Pico do Areeiro. This viewpoint is located next to Pousada do Pico.

Miradouro do Ninho da Manta. One of the most epic viewpoints in Madeira is the Miradouro do Ninho da Manta, also known as the Eagle's Nest, on the Pico do Areeiro. From here you get a 360° view over the surrounding mountains and if you're really lucky like we were there will be a sea of clouds below you.

After a short stop at Miradouro do Ninho da Manta, it is time to head in the direction of Miradouro Pedra Rija, where you will find the incredible Stairway to Heaven. On a cloudy day, this section of the hike is incredibly moody and dramatic, which is why it has become my absolute favourite part of the PR1 hike from Pico Do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo.
