A versatile artist whose creative output encompasses scenography, costume design, works on paper, and collage, Jagoda Buić is best known for the large-scale textile installations she began creating in the mid-1960s. Born in 1930 in Split, Croatia, Buić has spent extensive time in Italy, Austria, France, and the United States in addition to Croatia.

Orpheus is a large, rectangular weaving in wool, sisal and metallic thread of a mid-brown colour that hangs against the wall.It was made by the Yugoslav artist Jagoda Buić in 1972 and takes its title from the Greek god of music Orpheus whose lyre could be suggested by the seven vertical 'fins' protruding at right angles to the wall and from the main body of the weaving.
