Montana Roja. Walk 9 Montana Roja from Walk! Lanzarote (3rd ed 2012) by David & Ros Brawn published by Discovery Walking Guides. 197 metres might not sound like much of a mountain, but located where it is in the flat deserts of Playa Blanca, this counts as a high summit. Easy way-finding on well marked paths with enough of a climb for a sense.

The vibrant red mountain of Montaña Roja, often pronounced montanya Roger instead of montanya roha as it sounds in Spanish, has been linked to mysterious UFO sightings in the past. This volcano is situated in the far South of Lanzarote. Whilst in the resort of Playa Blanca, I had an impulse for a walk.

The terrain is fairly easy to walk on. That's good news. The only thing you have to be careful about up there, is the WIND, because it's always really windy in that area. The Volcano is about 180 meters high. So be careful. Especially when walking out to the very edge of The Volcano, where the view is so STUNNING.

The sand a golden reddish colour complimented the Montaña Roja (Red Mountain) in the background. The sand was peppered with various sized stones and rocks. It did have a manufacturered feel. Definitely would not consider swimming here as the waterfront is sheets of lava flow and very rocky. The sea was also a bit rough crashing down on the beach.
