Also called ambo, or pulpit, it was carved by Giovanni Pisano, between 1301 and 1310, and represents one of its masterpieces. The pulpit replaced a previous one, which was sent to the Cathedral of Cagliari, then dependent on the archbishop of Pisa. It survived the great fire of the Duomo on 25 Oc.

Nicola's pulpit is presently located in the Pisa baptistery on the southern side of the building, or to the left of the font, though originally it was probably located to the right of the font (see photo).
