The last thing I expected to see in the Netherlands was a parrot. Not only did I see a parrot, I saw multiple, in the wild. These parakeets were imported from Pakistan for wealthy Dutch families.

Since then, these birds which have their origins in India and Sub-Saharan Africa have grown in number -- over 3,000 in Amsterdam and 10,000 in all of the Netherlands

One commonly found parrot in Amsterdam is the African Grey Parrot (Psittacus erithacus). These birds are known for their exceptional intelligence and ability to mimic sounds and human speech. African Greys are predominantly grey in color with a red tail, and their striking appearance makes them a popular choice as pets.
