Then use black contrast paint with contrast medium like 3 to 1 mix. I then use that for a few coats. It gives it metallic black with metal highlights.

Another quick scheme I use is prime in black then heavy drybrush with leadbealcher, then use black Templar contrast on all the black armor panels, leadbealcher for silver trim. My recipe is Iron warriors from citadel (it's basically leadbelcher with nuln oil but as a paint colour). Then I mix nuln oil with abaddon black (any black is fine), citadel contrast black templar and some thinning medium (I use the lahmium medium from citadel) - you'll want this to be very watery - mix it all up and apply liberally to get that noice grim dark vibe.

The issue is I find the black iron style paint job uninteresting, such that's it's putting me off starting them a bit.
