A nice example of a Pre-WWI Model 1889 Cavalry Trooper's combat sword for Prussia. It is marked "W 97" on the spine and maker marked with a crown over "ERFURT" on one side of the ricasso and "OTTO MERTENS SOLINGEN" on the other. The hilt is in very good condition with an even overall patina. The grips are excellent with no chips or cracks.

Posted 25 November , 2020 (edited) Hopefully one of our German edged weapon expert can help. The attached pics are of a Faschinenmesser I have recently acquired. It was manufactured by Otto Mertens of Solingen. I understand that this Mertens was active between 1893 and 1918. The blade is not dated but is only marked with a Gothic G.
