The W202 C-Class offered a complete lineup of multi-valve engines. The new M111 four-cylinder petrol engines debuted in the C 180 (1.8 L, 120 hp), C 200 (2.0 L, 134 hp) and C 220 (2.2 L, 148 hp). In 1997 the C 220 was replaced by the C 230, enlarged to 2.3 L displacement. In 1995, the W202 C-Class performance model C 36 AMG was introduced.
