Edited Mar 24, 2010. For decades, wargamers have been referring casually to the "classics"--usually meaning Avalon Hill wargames published in the 1950s or 1960s. But the cutoff date is unclear, and some of the games weren't that good and were discontinued. And the status of at least one (Civil War) as a true wargame is questionable.
