The Tahajjud Prayer, also known as Salatallayl namaz e shab or Namaz-e-Shab, is incredibly important among all the extra (Sunnat) prayers. Tahajjud means giving up sleep to pray Salat. The Quran mentions it in Surah 17:79, which advises us to pray during the night, not just the obligatory prayers.

Namaz-e-Shab has more importance than others desirable prayers. It has more importance than supererogatory prayers of five times. It has 11 Rakats and its timing is from midnight to dawn. If one offers the Namaz-e-Shab after the Morning Azan and before Sunrise one must neither recite it with the intention of Qaza nor the intention of Adaa (in time), rather one should recite it with the intention of 'whatever is applicable'.
