This is the third Irish Whiskey I've reviewed from Trader Joe's. The first was a 4-year-old Irish single malt that was utterly delicious and even though it said ex-Bourbon I swear there were some sherry casks involved. The second was an 8-year-old Irish single malt that was good, but not overly exciting; this Trader Joe's 15 Years Old Irish Single Malt falls somewhere in between.

After the first sip, we were surprised—pleasantly! This whiskey is really easy to drink, smooth, tasty and "actually kind of dangerous.". Notes of honey and baking spices.

Overall: The Trader Joe's Irish Whiskey is a well balanced and delicious malty concoction that reminds me more of Macallan 10 than it does of Bushmills 10 and is on par with many good single malt Scotches. Yes I said that and I stand by it. There are notes in there that if I were tasting this blind would throw me for a loop and swear I was drinking a Scottish Single Malt finished in sherry.

Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey Single Malt Irish Whiskey
N: Light and malty with a hint of new leather (evoking peat but in a very non-Islay way). Slightly lemony. A bit grainy with a very slight floral top note. A little dried fruit. P: Nice medium body. Malt heavy, lightly lemony, slightly biscuity. This is a bit earthy and oily as well (again, in a non-Islay way).
