Measure in from the edge 1/2″ and drill a pilot hole for the screws. Then draw a line 3/4″ from the end to align the first backrest support. Clamp the support in place and drill pilot holes from the inside of the frame into the support. Attach the support with glue and screws, moving the clamp as necessary.
